They say terror works like a musical composition—so many instruments, all in time, playing perfectly together to create their desired effect, sorrow, horror and fear.
After a stunned nation saw Japan’s devastation for fifteen days—scourging images from cameras that converged—these vivid painful account brought that tragedy home with renewed forces.
As we look back at 9/11, the worst man-made catastrophe with evidence of intelligence failure, people still regarded the attack as almost unimaginable -- so brutal, and brazen an assault.
But an earthquake was in the cards, forewarned, foreseen, yet dismissed, until it’s too late. To be caught unprepared would be a failure of imagination than will -- a realization more frightening on the light of what lies ahead.
If citizens cannot be helped in their hour of desperate need, stripped of safety and comfort…human nature takes its course. Survivors will have to make choices—be it mercy, mischief, greed, gallantry, depravity or worse…surrendering to despair.
All it Takes is a Little Preparation and Your Life Will Be Alot Easier
Clive Manley, Auckland Civil Defence and Emergency manager, said Aucklanders needed to take emergency planning seriously.
"Many people think that we are never going to face an emergency situation in Auckland.
"Yet this year Auckland has been affected by flooding, tornadoes and tsunami threats generated by earthquakes in Chile and Japan and we have seen the devastating effect of the earthquakes in Christchurch.
"The possibility of an emergency, whether that be caused by a volcanic eruption, the weather, or man-made disaster should never be dismissed.

Mother nature is a powerful beast. She does not discriminate, and she does not give warning. We can all relate to going through a natural disaster or know someone who had to go through it.
Being prepared for a natural disaster can save you pain and anguish. It takes time and effort, but it's worth it in the long run.
Japan was hit in early March 2011 by an earthquake with a 9.0 magnitude on the Richter scale, followed by a tsunami that disabled a major nuclear plant. More than 18,000 people were killed, though the total death toll was yet to be determined as of Aug 2011. Another major quake with a magnitude of 7.1 hit the region precisely one month later. During this period, Christchurch, New Zealand was also struck by a major quake.
Natural disasters such as earthquakes, tsunamis, floods, hurricanes and tornadoes come and go, leaving massive destruction in their wake. We can’t do much to stop them, and most are rather difficult to predict, but if we are prepared for them, we can do a lot to lessen the damages that inevitably occur during natural disasters.
Are we prepared for the RIGHT KIND of natural disaster that would be most likely to strike in our area?

Emergency supply of food that is sufficient for at least one week. You should also obtain at least 7-8 gallons of water per person; this should be sufficient for one week. Other staples might include rice or pasta, canned goods, dried meat, fruit and vegetables, dried legumes, and other non-perishable foods according to your family’s taste. If you have pets, it would also be wise to keep a supply of water and pet food for them, too, and include means for transporting them.
It’s also a good idea to keep an emergency supply kit close at hand containing a change of clothing, candles, flashlights, a non-electric can opener, camp stove and fuel, matches and/ or cigarette lighters, heat generator (propane or wood), medications, first aid kit and handbook, portable radio, batteries for radio and flashlight (note: storing batteries in the refrigerator will prolong battery life), and warm blankets. It's also a good idea to keep some cash on hand when you leave; credit card swipers won't always be functioning and cash will be your only option. And the Good News is we carry all the emergency
